ROYALE HISTORY
Royale was designed by the Sydney Naval Architect Warwick Hood and built by Peter Bracken for Charles Rosman. the design has been proven by some thirty seven years of service to be efficient and uniquely responsive in all weathers and circumstances, all experienced ferry masters that have handled Royale agree that she is an extraordinarily responsive vessel with characteristics almost akin to that of a twin screw vessel. Fully laden or as a light ship Royale does as she is told.
Royale was launched in 1974 and went into service to share the load of work previously handled by Regalia and Radar. Shortly after entering service Charles Rosman made the Royale available to the victims of the Darwin Cyclone Tracey, that were temporarily housed in Sydney, for harbour excursion as a diversion from their troubles.
On launching Royale was fitted with a Gardner marine diesel engine model 8L3B and inline eight cylinder naturally aspirated engine of 250 horse power. In 1987 that engine was removed and a new Gardner model 6LITY a turbocharged six cylinder engine of similar output was installed.
From time to time over many years Rosman Ferries have been called on to support Sydney Ferries when they have experienced capacity shortages, for any of a variety of reason, Royale was always favoured by passengers and crew alike for those duties.
